Travers Foundation’s “Strengthening Black Families” Initiatives. The Bright Minds Program offers activities to inspire at-risk youth to develop abilities that can be transferred into positive life skills. This session is offered to students in 8, 9, and 10th grades.\nHow a child will benefit from the Bright Minds Chess Club:\n\nChess improves concentration and speed of calculation.\nChess increases brain power.\nChild will learn how to process information in a timely manner.\nChess develops critical and logical thinking skills.\nChess develops strategic planning skills.\nChess improves decision making skills.\nEnables a child to analyze actions and consequences.\nEnables a child to engage in higher-order thinking.\nChess improves cognitive development.\nChess develops self-control and discipline.\nChess develops visual memory and improves focus.\nChess develops creativity and self-esteem.\nStudents will develop good sportsmanship when they win or lose.\nChild will learn how to work cooperatively.\n\nChess Instructors:\nFleming E.
